Aljamain Sterling and Sean O’Malley will compete on the Boston PPV card. Sterling will look to improve his bantamweight record of three consecutive title defenses to four in Boston. As a promotion for the fight, Sterling went on Twitter to mock O’Malley with a historical movement. He referenced the Boston Tea Party, where the Sons of Liberty disguised as Indigenous Americans destroyed an entire shipment of East India Company’s tea.

Aljamain Sterling wrote, “Unfortunately, I can’t be a Suga Sean fan on August 19. I’ll be recreating 1773 history, dumping Suga on his head for the Boston Tea Party of 2023. “Taxation, without representation” meets “No Gold, without earning it.” Sterling has done a better job of promoting the fight again O’Malley than his other fights.

Sterling vs. O’Malley is a typical grappler vs. striker bout. Sterling has high-level wrestling and exceptional submission skills. On the other hand, O’Malley can outstrike anyone on any given day. Sterling has a weakness of awkward movements that may open up the striking for O’Malley. It is not an easy fight for the champion, but he must have a disciplined approach to retain the title.

The bantamweight division has seen multiple fighters of high-level compete in the UFC. Dominick Cruz, Urijah Faber, T.J. Dillashaw, and Renan Barao have displayed dominance throughout their run in the division. However, all the stats indicate Sterling as the best bantamweight fighter.

Sterling has more finishes than anyone else in the division as well as title defenses. He also has the most wins in the UFC bantamweight history. The only one likely to capture the win record could be his teammate Merab Dvalishvili.

UFC 292 could be the last time Sterling fights in the bantamweight division. The weight cut is difficult for Sterling in the bantamweight division, and he desires to compete for the featherweight title. Hence, with a win at UFC 292, Sterling will likely leave the bantamweight division.
