Charles Oliveira had an unforgettable end to 2022 after suffering a heartbreaking defeat against Islam Makhachev in Abu Dhabi. Oliveira looked to remain in title contention by competing against Beneil Dariush at UFC 289. He knocked out Dariush in less than five minutes to shock the Canadian crowd. He extended his UFC finish record to 20 at UFC 289 with the victory.

Charles Oliveira celebrated the victory backstage with his friends and family. However, Oliveira uttered the iconic lines of Cuba Gooding Jr. in the film, Jerry Maguire, while waiting for his bonus. Oliveira said, “Show me the money,” while celebrating with his victory over Dariush. After his thrilling performances, Oliveira has overtaken Donald Cerrone for the most post-fight bonuses in UFC history.

Dana White and the UFC awarded a post-fight bonus to Oliveira for finishing Dariush in the first round. The line “Show me the money” remains a classic even to this day. In the film Jerry Maguire, Gooding Jr.’s character uttered these lines to Tom Cruise to help him get a better contract for his performance. Similarly, Oliveira wanted to get paid for his dominant display at UFC 289.

Dariush had an eight-fight winning streak heading into the bout with Oliveira. He even landed a takedown in the fight. However, Oliveira proved his worth as the former champion after demolishing Dariush in the first round. It appears that Dana White will book a rematch between Oliveira and Makhachev for the Abu Dhabi PPV card this year.

Former champion Charles Oliveira defeated Beneil Dariush to once compete for the title. Oliveira stopped the hype of Dariush with his insane striking skills. Dariush had an eight-fight winning streak heading into the bout.

However, the Brazilian surprised the Canadian crowd with his English-speaking ability. Oliveira is not adept in the English language. However, “do Bronx” tried his best to engage the Canadian crowd.

Interviewer Daniel Cormier acknowledged the English spoken by Oliveira and appreciated it. Fans have taken note of it on social media as well. Oliveira remains the most dangerous fighter in the lightweight division.
