Joe Rogan has been working as UFC’s color commentator and interviewer since 1997. Having been associated with the promotion for so long he has seen some of the bloodiest and most brutal actions inside the Octagon. Recently he shared some insight about some of the rarest submissions in UFC.

Joe Rogan was recently joined by stand-up comedian Brain Simpson and while talking on the podcast Brain brought up the topic of the rarest submissions in UFC. Responding to that Joe said, “That would have to be the twister followed by oma plata and maybe the calf slicer“. Further explaining the rarity of those moves Joe said, “I think in the UFC there have only been two or three twisters and I think the same things like only two or three Oma plata and I know one Calf slicer submission that I am thinking about and that’s Charles Oliveira”.

The pair then continued to watch a video compilation of the rarest submissions in UFC on YouTube where they stumbled upon “Full Bostan Carb” and declared it to be one of the rarest submissions used in MMA. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu has become the most influential style in MMA. These days fighters with strong jiu-jitsu or wrestling backgrounds manage to come up with some of the most innovative moves set inside the cage.

Rogan has experienced firsthand some of the most memorable fights in UFC. However, to his bad luck, he missed one of his favorite fights in recent history. According to Joe, Alexander Volkanovski vs Brain Ortega was one such fight he regrets not being present in the arena.

Rewatching the match on his Podcast the Joe Rogan Experience, he explained why that match was one of the must-watch bouts in UFC. Rogan said, “Brain Ortega vs Alexander Volkanovski…Alexander Volkanovski most gets tapped out, Brain Ortega gets Volkanovski in his guillotine choke a mounted guillotine choke which is the nastiest shit ever, and this guy is a fucking strangulation except and Volkanovski is stuck…and he got out, he was so close…and Volkanovski winds up on top and then gets on top he just keeps hammering him… this fight is one of the best examples…I wanna talk about will and warrior spirit, this is one of the best fights ever”.

Few fighters in the entire world are capable of escaping a completely mounted, vice-locked, topside guillotine from a first-degree black belt like Brian Ortega. One of the things that fans adore about the UFC announcer and the sport, in general, is his respect for MMA athletes.
