Sean O’Malley became the UFC bantamweight champion by beating Aljamain Sterling in UFC 292. Ever since he has hinted at a possible boxing match. Now, after the massive success of Francis Ngannou vs. Tyson Fury, he looked more interested in it. He even accepted a callout from the American boxer Devin Haney. After that, Marlon “Chito” Vera posted a message for O’Malley on X.

Soon after winning the title, Sean O’Malley called out Chito Vera for his first title defense. The two have bad blood between them and have been going at each other. After being silent for a while, Vera called O’Malley a Conor McGregor wannabe and reminded him of his title defense. Here is what Vera said:

Sean O’Malley, through his reply to Marlon Vera, confirmed that he was not trying to box. He also looked determined to fight and defeat Vera. He has an MMA record of 17 wins and one loss. As such, the only loss for the champion came against Vera, and he wants to avenge the loss.

‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley stunned everyone with a knockout win over Sterling to grab the bantamweight title. Marlon Vera had won his fight convincingly against Pedro Munhoz on the same night. Their history and O’Malley’s callout set up the storyline for their second meeting. They are expected to fight in early 2024 but the UFC hasn’t confirmed it yet.

Sean O’Malley was an MMA star on the rise when he fought Petr Yan in October 2022. He won a controversial split decision win. However, he was awarded a title shot next against the then-champion Aljamain Sterling. He impeccably beat Sterling to claim the bantamweight title.

Recently, Sean O’Malley wrote on Twitter about how passionate it was that he beat both Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling. He wrote that a year back, Sterling was the champion and Yan was the number one contender, but now he was both. Here is what O’Malley said on X:

A year ago Aljo was Champ and Peter was #1 now I am both. Crazy

Now, Sean O’Malley was looking forward to defending his title against long-time rival Marlon Vera. Vera handed O’Malley his only loss in his MMA career. Now, he is looking to hand him his second loss while O’Malley is looking to avenge his only loss. This would be a great fight, considering both fighters are excellent strikers.
