Chris Weidman‘s recent return to the win column wasn’t without controversy. Fighting on UFC on ESPN 54’s main card, Weidman defeated Bruno Silva. However, there was substantial eye poking involved that video replay proved. In light of this, Chris Curtis weighed in on Nassourdine Imavov poking him; Joaquin Buckley has resounded on the incident.
On the main card of UFC on ESPN 54, Chris Weidman climbed his way up via TKO (punches). However, the rival soon protested that he got several eye-pokes which switched it to a Technical UD win. Silva opened up, on at least three pokes, later, which impaired his visibility severely.

Man made a good a** point...I never felt like we needed new gloves These mfs just need to close they hands just that simple. Are you St*pid or Are You Du*b lol...Joaquin Buckley via X (@Newmansa94)
‘New Mansa’ was resounding what Chris Curtis said at the UFC Fight Night 240 pre-fight media scrum. Curtis has an ongoing build-up against Brendan Allen as a replacement for the headliner. During the conference, he touched upon that none of his 31-10 MMA, 5-2 UFC bouts ever had the mark of a poke. His was an inference to Nassourdine Imavov who previously poked him and left him unable to see following UFC 289.
The reply came when a journalist nudged Curtis about Imavov. Both Buckley and he voiced that needing to resort to such is weird. Buckley also advocated that a fighter just needs to reel in their fingers while jabbing and does not need new gloves. The likes of which Justin Gaethje and Aljamain Sterling have been making a strong case for.
Twitter reacts to Chris Weidman’s controversial win at UFC on ESPN 54: The Fallout
From torn tendons to chronic infection; combat sports ought to have a nature of physicality. Then there’s the story of eye pokes. Mohammed Usman‘s UFC Vegas 79 poke was subjected to much trolling. Chris Gutierrez, however, was unforgiving when he was heckled for a rather accidental poke. The Belal Muhammad eye-poke incident is one for the books and the imagery has been a running gag ever since.

The last big poke we saw was Aliaskhab Khizriev vs. Makhmud Muradov at UFC Fight Night 235. Now Silva was severely under the limit due to several pokes. Stemming from Chris Curtis’ comments, even Joaquin Buckley has weighed in. Here’s what other peers and MMA pundits say –
While not speaking directly of it, here’s what Chris Curtis voiced on the matter, and Nassourdine Imavov poking him:
God damn he’s [Imavov] just the dirtiest mother**** who’s ever fought, Guys, I've got 41 fights...and, like I don't think I've ever been called for eye poke, I haven't head-butt anybody...I have never kicked a downed opponent...How do you do this sh*t back to back like very fight? You are either dirty or stupid...Chris Curtis at the UFC Fight Night 240 pre-fight Media Day presser
Curtis and Imavov have bad blood; the latter also jumped the ledge of the octagon to irk Curtis. This was when Imavov defeated Roman Dolidze at UFC Fight Night 235, and revived the rivalry. When asked about Dolidze and Imavov, Curtis ripped the habitual dirty means.
Weidman too, sported red-eye at the post-fight presser, due to impacts and a severe subconjunctival hemorrhage. While fight fans have called upon the credibility of his win, he in turn has dubbed down Silva’s cry for help as not very sporting.
