Ciryl Gane and Khamzat Chimaev recently met inside the cage at Ares Fighting Championships. The two met inside the cage at Ares FC 17 as they were on the opposing corners of the headliners. Aboubakar Younousov and Moustapha Aida headlined Ares FC 17 for the bantamweight title. Chimaev was in Younousov’s corner, while Gane was in Aida’s. Like Chimeav, Younousov remained unbeaten with a second-round finish over Aida at the event.

During Younousov’s post-fight speech, Chimaev and Gane engaged in a friendly conversation inside the cage. Apparently, Chimaev faked Gane with a takedown before greeting him. The two engaged in a short, friendly chat before going their separate ways. However, fans on social media did not let go of the situation.

Gane’s wrestling deficiencies were displayed at UFC 285, where Jon Jones won via quick submission. Gane was brutally trolled for his loss to Jones. Now, the incident with Chimaev brought back memories of the event to the fans. However, Gane, after the loss to Jones, showed improved wrestling in his bout with Sergey Spivak.

On the other hand, Chimaev’s deficiencies in striking and cardio were evident at UFC 294, where Kamaru Usman only lost via majority decision. It needs to be noted that Usman was coming on ten days’ notice for the fight. Paulo Costa was Chimaev’s original opponent but a staph infection ruled him out of the event.

Ciryl Gane’s awkward interaction with Khamzat Chimaev at the Ares FC event did not go unnoticed by the MMA media. Chimaev’s hilarious takedown attempt forced Gane to respond awkwardly. Fans compared the response to his feeble attempt at UFC 285 against Jon Jones.

In the video, Gane’s reaction to Chimaev’s takedown attempt was unresponsive. This was the main reason why fans trolled Gane. Gane’s reaction was deemed inferior to that of other fighters in a similar situation.
