Firas Zahabi accuses Johny Hendricks of PED use
Firas Zahabi has openly accused Johny Hendricks of taking performance-enhancing drugs. Zahabi’s charges arise from his conviction that Hendricks’ performance dropped significantly after the introduction of USADA. This caused him to assume foul play even though Hendricks had never tested positive for PEDs in his ten-year MMA career.
Zahabi remembers proposing to pay $10,000 out of his own money for full testing to address his worries and seek openness. He advocated employing the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) to test Hendricks and St-Pierre independently, making the results public regardless of the outcome. Zahabi’s goal was to eliminate worries about the competition’s fairness and protect the sport’s credibility. This is what he said:
Johny Hendricks in an interview said he would do testing. This is public information. Me and Georges St-Pierre took it upon ourselves to hire VADA, who’s going to independently test both teams… The UFC didn’t want to use this group, they wanted to use another group. I offered to pay $10,000 from my own pocket… Every test under the sun, let’s do it.Firas Zahabi via Tristar Gym YouTube
Hendricks’ career began to deteriorate, with regular weight misses and a 2-6 record in his final eight fights. Zahabi remained adamant that PED use had a role to play. The coach questioned Hendricks’ loss of drive as the only cause of his demise, emphasizing the financial stakes involved in professional fighting.
