Sean O’Malley mainly spoke of Cody “No Love” Garbrandt during the pre-fight press conference to troll him. The former bantamweight champion took to Twitter to reply to O’Malley’s comments. The fighters have a long-standing animosity stemming from UFC 269 pre-fight press conference.
During the pre-fight presser, Sean O’Malley was asked about who would score the first takedown in his bout with the champion. However, O’Malley reacted by enquiring about Garbrandt’s absence. “No Love” was supposed to fight O’Malley’s friend and training partner Mario Bautista and O’Malley had predicted Bautista knocking Garbrandt out if they fought. Garbrandt tweeted, “Can get it after Aljo mops the canvas with you.” The presser was intense, with both the champion and challenger not mincing words.
O’Malley and Garbrandt’s beef has now reignited again after the recent animosity. They fought on the same card in UFC 269, where “Suga” knocked out Raulian Paiva while Garbrandt got brutally KOed by Kai Kara-France. The rivalry between the two fighters can be easily understood when watching UFC 269 pre-fight press conference. They were mostly talking about each other than about their opponents. O’Malley’s comment and Garbrandt’s tweet are ingredients for a potential matchup if both fighters continue to win their fights.
Cody Garbrandt last fought at UFC 285, where he won a decision. Before that, he was on a two-fight losing streak. The former champion has lost 5 of his last seven bouts with the promotion. O’Malley, on the other hand, has not lost since his fight with Marlon “Chito” Vera at UFC 252. O’Malley plans to beat Aljamain Sterling at UFC 292 and defend the title in December against Vera.
Sean O’Malley and Aljamain Sterling have a 100-dollar bet

Both fighters have vowed to take down each other first, with the winner getting 100 dollars. O’Malley had a slight dig at Sterling, claiming that the champion has much to lose if he loses 100 dollars. O’Malley has used his UFC success to make investments outside the fight game. On the other hand, Sterling has a contentious relationship with both the media and the promotion.
The 100-dollar bet is just a prelude to what is to come. Both the fighters have acknowledged each other’s strengths and weaknesses. Sterling has been vocal about taking O’Malley down and beating him up while O’Malley is planning to knock Sterling out cold.
Sterling has been unbeaten since December 2017, while O’Malley is riding high of a Petr Yan win at UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi. O’Malley’s plans are purely business motivated, and he wishes to fight Marlon Vera if he wins the title. Sterling plans to move up in weight to challenge Alexander Volkanovski for the featherweight strap.
