“You’re embarrassing yourself” – Colby Covington claiming to break foot in first round against Leon Edwards has fans enraged

Colby Covington faced Leon Edwards in UFC 296 last week. The build-up to the fight had a lot of heat, with ‘Chaos’ going after Edwards unapologetically in the pre-fight pressers. He even remarked about Edwards’ late father, bringing them a whole new animosity. However, he lost the fight, handing ‘Rocky’ a dominant unanimous decision win. However, Covington doesn’t feel the same way. Now, he revealed about suffering a broken leg early in the fight.

Recently, Colby Covington appeared on the PBD podcast and discussed his fight in UFC 296. As such, he revealed that he broke his foot in the very first minute of the fight. He said it happened when he hit Leon Edwards’ elbow when throwing a kick. Here is what he said:

I broke my foot in like the first thirty seconds of the fight that people don't know about yet. I have a picture on my phone the exact moment where it landed on his (Leon Edwards) elbow. Landed right on the right elbow, the top of the foot.

Although Colby Covington broke his foot, he continued to fight for the remaining four rounds. However, it wasn’t enough to get the judge’s decision. Further, the fight fans heavily criticized him for a low-output fight and bashed him for his post-fight reaction. But ‘Chaos’ thought he had won the fight and acted like he won. As such, Covington still felt he outlanded and outcontrolled Leon Edwards and mentioned he felt like he won the fight in the podcast.

At the end of the day, Leon Edwards got his deserving victory and defended his welterweight title for the second time. On the other hand, Colby Covington lost his third attempt at the undisputed UFC title and called out Stephen Thompson to back his ranking in the welterweight division.

Colby Covington lost his fight to Leon Edwards on the judges’ scorecards as all judges scored it 49-46 in favor of Rocky. However, ‘Chaos’ thought he had won the fight. But the fans disagreed and bashed him for thinking he had won. Now, Covington revealed about breaking his foot in the first minute of the first round. But, the fans weren’t empathetic towards him and still trashed him for making excuses.

Part of the reason for fight fans trashing Colby Covington was his demeanor at the UFC pressers. He mocked Leon Edwards’ late father to get under Edwards’s skin. As such, when ‘Chaos’ revealed that he broke his foot, fans still blamed him for an entertaining fight. Here are a few interesting reactions:

Fight fans brutally trolled Colby Covington on X. However, a few supported Covington’s statement and agreed that it made sense. ‘Chaos’ looked off from his normal self in this fight, and fans speculated the broken foot was the reason. He lost his third title shot and would probably need 2-3 wins before coming into the title picture again. As for Edwards, he looked to defend his title next year.
