Colby Covington has planned his future before securing the welterweight throne. “Chaos” will fight Leon Edwards towards the end of the year. Colby has a number of opponents in mind for future title defenses. However, he plans to conquer the middleweight division by going after Israel Adesanya.

Colby Covington has not fought since his dominant decision win over Jorge Masvidal. Mike Heck of MMA Fighting interviewed Colby to get his reaction to the UFC 288 PPV. He admitted that he did not watch the PPV but revealed exciting news about his future. Colby revealed that he would fight for the title in either August or September. However, the fight will get pushed to November or December if Edwards refuses to sign the contract. He also talked about challenging Israel Adesanya in a future bout.

Covington said, “Absolutely [I’d still love that matchup], I think that’s a huge fight, and it’s a fight of high magnitude,” Colby explained about a matchup with Adesanya. He continued, “I like the matchup, to be honest. I don’t think he can hang with me. I think I take him down, I beat him from pillar to post and I just break him inside that octagon. He can’t hang with the cardio king. He’s not ready for raw American steel and twisted sex appeal.”

Chaos is known for his relentless pace and wrestling pressure to defeat opponents. Colby believes he has a perfect game plan in mind to defeat the UFC middleweight champion. He will aim to constantly takedown Adesanya with his high-level cardio. Fight fans would be intrigued by such a matchup and believe that a potential PPV would easily surpass a million buys.

Israel Adesanya regained his UFC middleweight title at UFC 287. He will look to defend the title against the winner of the Robert Whittaker vs Dricus Du Plessis bout at UFC 290. However, Colby will keep an eye on Adesanya to challenge him for the middleweight crown. He thinks that Adesanya cannot keep up with his wrestling in a potential bout.

Colby said, “I don’t think he wants to fight a high-level wrestler like me, someone that can just keep up and be in his face the whole entire time, pressuring him. I’m not just going to shoot one takedown, I’m going to shoot 5,000 takedowns and be in your face and break you.”

It appears Colby is serious about challenging Adesanya for the title. However, any plan of action will go through his successful coronation in the welterweight title fight. Dana White and the UFC will happily oblige to Colby’s wish to fight Adesanya if he can defeat Edwards later this year.
