What was his reason? ‘Chaos’ answered these questions in his recent interview with Tucker Carlson. As such, he revealed it was his mom, Noelle Covington, behind his decision to pursue an MMA career.

Colby Covington had a troubled childhood as he was easily bullied. Since he was a short wrestler, people mocked him for his appearance and called him out for fights. As such, he got into fights a lot. Now, he recalled an incident when his mom yelled at him after having a park fight. This lit the initial spark for ‘Chaos’ to dream about an MMA career. Here is what he said:

I was smaller, so they wanted to pick on me and call me out and fight. I remember, I got one fight in the park and I came home, and my mom is like 'You're never fighting again Colby. If you want to fight, go to the UFC and make money to fight.' That's when the bell rung in my head and I was like Oh, you're right mom. I should just go make this a living.

After having a successful wrestling career during his college days, Colby Covington pursued MMA as a career. As such, he got an opportunity at ‘American Top Team’, one of the world’s best MMA gyms. So, he racked up five wins before signing with the UFC. He made his UFC debut against Anying Wang and won via TKO in the first round. After winning his three fights in the UFC, he faced his first loss to Warlley Alves.

However, Colby Covington tore through the welterweight division since that loss. He went on a 7-fight win streak and acquired the interim championship title.
