Colby Covington faced Leon Edwards in a heated matchup at UFC 296. However, he lost the bout to ‘Rocky’. As such, critics labeled the performance to be underwhelming. Moreover, Covington’s approach even surprised the commentating team and they questioned a lot of things on live TV. Now, UFC lightweight Michael Chandler shared his thoughts on the same.

Michael Chandler, who is rumored to fight Conor McGregor at UFC 300, didn’t approve of Colby Covington’s performance. He criticized ‘Chaos’ for not showing any offense despite getting hit by Leon Edwards. Further, he made an analogy of Covington’s showdown with the American military to troll him. Here is what he said:

After 3 rounds, Colby took 1776 shots to the face and had zero offense. If Colby's offense was an accurate depiction of the US military, we would've never gotten our independence, lost World War I, and lost World War II.

As reported earlier, former US President Donald Trump was present at the arena to support Colby Covington. But ‘Chaos’ couldn’t deliver as promised as he lost the bout via unanimous decision. As such, Chandler agreed that Covington let Trump and America down. Also, since ‘Iron’ predicted Covington to get the better of Leon Edwards he too was left disappointed.

Colby Covington entered the octagon after spending nearly two years not competing. As such, he wasn’t the same as before and his performance lacked offensive techniques. So, he lost his third shot at the undisputed UFC title and left his supporters in distress. However, he promised to compete again next year in the post-fight pressers.

Michael Chandler goes wrong with his prediction of Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington

After entering the fight week of UFC 296, Michael Chandler previewed the fight between Leon Edwards and Colby Covington. As such, he believed in Covington’s ability to pressure and wrestle. So, he backed ‘Chaos’ to win the fight in UFC 296. However, now it was evident that ‘Iron’ was wrong.

Michael Chandler in an interview with ‘Body Slam’ stated that Colby Covington was tough and an unstoppable force. As such, he believed ‘Chaos’ had more tools to beat Leon Edwards and picked him to win the fight at UFC 296. Further, he criticized Edwards’ championship win over Kamaru Usman as a ‘fluke.’ So, he dismissed any lucky knockouts from ‘Rocky’ and backed Covington to win.

Colby, every single time he steps in there, he’s a force to be reckoned with. I would lean toward Colby. I think he has more tools. I think he has more ways to win. Leon’s not going to be able to stop the takedowns, I believe. He’s not going to be able to handle the pace of Colby, and I don’t think Leon’s going to get the lucky head kick he got against Kamaru.

At UFC 296, Leon Edwards put on a clinical performance to dominate Colby Covington and defend his title comfortably. Therefore, Michael Chandler’s prediction of the fight went wrong. As such, Chandler expressed his disappointment in his tweets on X and trolled ‘Chaos.’ As to when ‘Iron’ would return to the octagon, no official news was released by the UFC.
