Andrew Schulz- Israel Adesanya

Despite all the heat for his lacklustre performance at UFC 276, Israel Adesanya got huge support as well and comedian Andrew Schulz has hopped on the boat for the same. Andrew Schulz is an American stand-up comedian who is widely known for his crowd work where he roasts his audience to pull off incredibly funny yet risky jokes which can land him to get cancelled in the era of PC culture. Still, Schulz is one of the most popular comedians on the planet today.

Adesanya, the current UFC middleweight champion, last fought at UFC 276 when he defended his 185 lbs title for the fifth time against Jared Cannonier via unanimous decision. The Twitter world lost it over the fight for the lack of engagement during the battle and even amongst the audience inside the T-Mobile Arena, the fans were leaving the venue before the start of the fifth round. Adesanya has fired back at the criticism multiple times but has also been supported by fans and fighters such as Chael Sonnen.

In an interview for MMA Fighting’s THE MMA HOUR with Ariel Helwani, Andrew Schulz talks about buying back his own special from his formerly partnered streamer to launch it independently, his friendship with Adesanya, Joe Rogan and Brendan Schaub, his relation with Dillon Danis and much more. In the beginning, Schulz was asked about his thoughts on the last fight of Adesanya at UFC 276 which has been widely called boring.

“I think what happens is like, as you’re champion and as you’re dominant, you’re fighting the riskiest fighters, so the fights are not gonna be entertaining when you’re taking a tomato can and knock the guy out in the first round,” says Schulz “Now he can take extreme risk which I think is what everybody wants to see. I want to see my friend dominate people and I love the technician that he is. I am learning to like appreciate the minutia of MMA a little bit more so like, I like seeing him set up his strikes and that kind of stuff…” continued Schulz proceeding with supporting Helwani on how Cannonier should’ve brought more on the table to Adesanya.

What do you make of Schulz’s thoughts on Adesanya’s performance at UFC 276? Do you agree with them? Adesanya is most likely to fight his kickboxing rival Alex Pereira next for his sixth title defence. Who do you think wins that fight? In kickboxing, Pereira has a couple of wins over Adesanya which include on knockout victory. Adesanya on the other hand has been undefeated as a middleweight in MMA and has wins over the likes of Cannonier, Robert Whittaker, Marvin Vettori, Yoel Romero, Derek Brunson, Kelvin Gastelum, Anderson Silva and many more.
