The barrage of negative comments, tweets, and messages from the MMA fanbase wears UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik down. As such the legendary commentator considered leaving the promotion, especially in the wake of UFC 297. Dricus Du Plessis had edged out former champion Sean Strickland by a split decision in its main event. Thus earning Anik’s praise. Alongside fans hitting him with a wave of pessimism, even Strickland had sneered at him. And Dillon Danis has taken offense to that.

Du Plessis recently got a hero’s welcome on his return to South Africa. Before that, he sat down with Anik,  on the ‘Anik and Florian‘ podcast#461 and discussed his winning strategy. Anik had responded positively to the split scoring, favoring ‘Stillknocks’ at UFC 297. The fight bubble did not take that lightly and berated him for it. On trying to voice his angst over it, Strickland had scoffed at him instead. Here’s what Danis’ latest tweet reads on X –

Strickland lost out big on his maiden defense. Judges Derek Cleary/Eric Colon scored the bout 48-47 in favor of Du Plessis. While Sal D’Amato scored a 48-47 the other way. Strickland’s issue was not the support towards the rival but about the fans instead. The supposed ‘people’s champion’ fired back on the commentary on the toxicity of the MMA fanbase. And accordingly, Danis pitched in.

This particular diss stems from ‘Tarzan’ vowing to stab Dricus Du Plessis if his childhood trauma was mentioned ever again, after UFC 296 Media Day presser. Fight fans and a lot of other peers, including Du Plessis and even Israel Adesanya had mocked this duality for the unhinged fighter. And Danis wasn’t left behind.

Brief history of times Dillon Danis dissed Sean Strickland

Dillon Danis isn’t really the go-to people’s champion right now. Despite enjoyable antics, the Ex-Bellator fame fumbled at DAZN Series X: Misfits Boxing last year and had earned the moniker of being a keyboard warrior. But unlike Dubliner Conor McGregor‘s sparring partner, Sean Strickland is considered as the ‘true American’ champion within the MMA community.

However, Strickland recently lost out his first-ever title defense at UFC 297, against Dricus Du Plessis. Ringside commentator Jon Anik has incurred fan wrath on siding with Du Plessis’ split-decision win. And also that of Strickland for crying foul. Anik did later apologize for criticizing the MMA fanbase and some of his more regrettable commentary.

But in a since-deleted tweet, Danis chose to gibe at ‘Tarzan’ for contradictory sentiments. Consequently, this isn’t his first diss hurled towards the fighter.

Danis has sneered at Strickland’s mettle to ever win the matchup against Du Plessis, in a hilarious giveaway banter.

Alongside, he did subject the fighter to some worded slurs in the aftermath.

Additionally, he had also critiqued Strickland’s UFC 296 ringside brawl with Du Plessis. Danis, who had taken to overtly trolling influencer-boxer Logan Paul‘s fiance Nina Agdal was released from Bellator after his defeat. However, he took this opportunistic moment to shift the focus to ‘bigger liability’ Strickland.
