The death of Sinead O’Connor brought a sad day to the world in 2023. Her contributions to the sport took a heavy toll on the MMA community. Sinead O’Connor joined megastar Conor McGregor at UFC 189 during the walkout. The UFC does not allow live performances during a walkout but made an exception for Sinead and McGregor. It remains the only live performance during a walkout in Dana White’s era as the President.

UFC 189 became the crowning moment of McGregor’s career and the company’s path to becoming a global giant. Hence, it remains an iconic performance in the history of the UFC. Conor McGregor reacted to her passing on Twitter. He wrote, “The world has lost an artist with the voice of an Angel. Ireland has lost an iconic voice and one of our absolute finest, by a long shot. And I have lost a friend.”

O’Connor will have a lasting legacy as the most prominent Irish singer ever. She wrote songs for films, collaborated with other artists, and raised money for charitable causes. Her music echoed her feelings on spirituality, activism, socio-political views, trauma, and mental health. O’Connor used her fame and influence to speak against child abuse and instill the need for the safety of human rights.

McGregor had a close friendship with the iconic Irish singer. He was very happy when Sinead sang for McGregor’s walkout at UFC 189. McGregor won his first title after walking out with O’Connor. He fought Chad Mendes and won the bout via knockout. Ireland celebrated with their head held high that day after their native became a UFC champion, and Sinead had a majestic cameo at the event.
