“Done the splits like a stripper” – Conor McGregor and fans troll ‘mastermind’ Henry Cejudo for failed comeback after hype

Henry Cejudo returned to the UFC after an absence of three years at UFC 288. Cejudo retired as the bantamweight champion in 2020. In his absence, Aljamain Sterling took over the division with notable wins over Cory Sandhagen, Petr Yan, and T.J. Dillashaw. Henry Cejudo returned at UFC 288 intending to reclaim the title he never lost. After five rounds of action, Sterling managed to do enough to retain his title with a split-decision victory.
Cejudo and Sterling had some cringe-worthy moments heading into the fight. In the fight week, Cejudo’s teammates stalked Sterling and played mind games with him. Sterling even warned them not to do it. At the ceremonial weigh-ins, they got intense at the face-offs. Sterling came into the fight with a point to prove after fans never considered him a bantamweight champion. There were asterisks to Sterling’s victories as a champion.
The fight started with Cejudo getting a takedown, but Sterling turned the tide in the first round and got his back. Sterling landed the more significant strikes in the fight. He landed over 100 strikes over the five rounds. Cejudo made his return after three years but was not able to get to his rhythm. Cejudo found it challenging to take down Sterling in the fight. Sterling managed to takedown and control the Olympic Gold Medalist at UFC 288.
In the last two rounds, Cejudo attempted to fight back. However, Sterling’s constant movement kept Cejudo guessing the whole fight. At the end of the fourth, Sterling landed a takedown with Cejudo on split legs. It may be the only round Cejudo won clearly. After five rounds, Sterling won the fight via split decision.

Aljamain Sterling entered UFC 288 with an eight-fight winning streak. Cejudo came intending to defeat Sterling and reclaim the title he never lost. They were heated moments heading into the fight, questioning each other’s nationality.
Conor McGregor and fans joined forces on Twitter to roast Cejudo. Mcgregor wrote, “Easiest money I’ve ever made. Not a scratch on Aljo! Congrats Funkmaster! Good little fighter is Henry but give it a rest with these agendas all the time. The guy is sub 20 fights in his career. His little feints an all ahaha omg please teach me mastermind lol. Done the splits like a stripper and got dumped on his ass he did hahaha oh lord it’s tasty, @ProperWhiskey.”

Sean O’Malley will be the next contender for the bantamweight title. Other contenders like Merab Dvalishvili and Cory Sandhagen lurk on the sidelines to get their title shot. For now, the champion Sterling will look forward to the O’Malley fight.
