“We got confirmation a few days ago..” Conor McGregor announces blockbuster summer return against Michael Chandler

Conor McGregor is the most popular UFC superstar. The Irishman has transcended the boundaries of combat sports and ventured into other areas as well. McGregor recently ended speculation about his much-anticipated UFC comeback. The Irish superstar confirmed he will face Michael Chandler this summer.

This prospective matchup remained in the works for over a year. Conor McGregor disclosed that his team received confirmation of a summer date a few days earlier versus Michael Chandler. Being back in the octagon thrilled him. This is what he stated:

We got confirmation a few days ago that it's all systems go. The Notorious will be returning to the UFC octagon this summer... Got the call. Thumbs up.

McGregor gave no date for the highly anticipated battle. He also made verbal digs against Chandler. McGregor ridiculed Michael Chandler’s mic incident on WWE’s Monday Night Raw. Chandler had called out McGregor about their unfinished business at the RAW event. He asked Conor to take a stance and fight him.

Originally, McGregor claimed they would fight after coaching The Ultimate Fighter season 31. Later, he even targeted June 29th’s UFC 303 at one point. The UFC management rejected the said date. The weight class also remained uncertain after previous conflicting statements. McGregor initially proposed 185 lbs. This was an abnormal weight for both fighters. Now, the combat sports community awaits official information on the return of ‘The Notorious.’

Michael Chandler responded to Conor McGregor’s revelation

Michael Chandler waited patiently for his fight against Conor McGregor for over a year. He responded rather oddly to McGregor’s latest announcement about fighting in the summer. Chandler addressed McGregor’s claim with humor.

McGregor informed ESPN that he has obtained confirmation to fight Chandler this summer. On the other hand, Chandler asked the MMA community to get it confirmed by Dana White. He seemed skeptical about McGregor’s words in his X response. This is what Chandler said:

I’m not sure I’ll be ready for a summer fight…this came out of the blue…I’ve been out of the loop. Can y’all ask Dana to confirm this?

McGregor had already declared that a fight was set several times. He announced in December that he would fight Chandler at UFC 303. White quickly refuted that claim, reminding McGregor it’s the promotion’s role to announce bouts. A McGregor vs. Chandler fight is a guaranteed massive event whenever it happens. McGregor’s star power and Chandler’s aggressive style could produce fireworks.
