Stepping into the new year, the return of Conor McGregor had more built-up anticipation than anything else. The former two-division titleholder, at 22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC has been on the sidelines since UFC 264. Stepping into New Year’s Eve, the Irishman teased to reveal his next UFC fight details. Including date and opponent on New Year’s Day, igniting excitement. The expectant rival, as always was Michael Chandler.
McGregor last fought Dustin Poirier. In the last of their trilogy bout at UFC 264, the fighter broke his tibia and fibula. On the eve of New Year itself, the fighter took to his Instagram account to make new definitive claims of return. Here’s what he had to say on the matter:

Chandler and McGregor have a long-standing history. However, amidst banter, McGregor had recently and nonchalantly brushed him off after a UFC 300 super fight tease. The latest announcement was seen differently, and ended with a banger, with him adding:

The middleweight bout is to happen on June 29th at International Fight Week in Vegas. With a rise as a 185lber, McGregor might be looking for multi-division glory yet again.
Michael Chandler responds to Conor McGregor’s challenge
Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler’s callouts now have seen finality. With “The Notorious” marking the Las Vegas international fight week as his comeback date, he gets to face Chandler at 185lbs. The 23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC Chandler and McGregor both serve as opposing judges for TUF Season 31. They have been thus fuelling up a rivalry for long, with subsequent callouts. McGregor last fought at UFC 264.
MMA Junkie reached out to UFC officials to confirm but did not hear back before going to press. Though it’s typically held in the summer, the promotion hasn’t officially announced when International Fight Week 2024 falls. Talking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, check out what Chandler said though.
McGregor recently re-entered the testing pool for the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency. With USADA officially bowing out this Monday, Drug-Free Sport International takes the spot. Promotion head honcho Dana White and legal chief Hunter Campbell have anointed George Piro as the UFC’s new drug-testing helmsman.
