Away from active fighting status, UFC superstar Conor McGregor maintains a healthy outreach and approach toward outside ventures. Over 29 to 30 months on the shelf, the Dubliner finally might make his hyped comeback at UFC’s International Fight Week, which happens to be UFC 302. Now, along with his entrepreneurial approaches and proactive dialoguing with peers/fans, McGregor is stepping into acting as well. He recently put Hollywood on alert after ‘mind-blowing’ work with actor Jake Gyllenhaal in upcoming “Road House” movie
The long-awaited “Road House” remake featuring former UFC two-division champion saw a release date as of late. Concurrently, the trailer of the movie has just dropped as well. A new version of the 1989 film, starring Patrick Swayze, will premiere on March 21, according to a press release. While Gyllenhaal has the lead, the footage shows McGregor serving as his “nemesis” named ‘Knox’, with both going into heavy blows.
With the subsequent fighting in-universe, McGregor recently quipped about it to his co-star. Doug Liman is directing “Road House”. JJ Hook, Alison Winter, Aaron Auch, and Paradigm Sports founder Audie Attar are producing. The movie has a UFC element, with several scenes of Gyllenhaal shot live during the weekend of UFC 285 last March.
While the actor plays a washed-up and broke fighter, ‘The Notorious’ seemingly plays a brash and unhinged foe, set on his past as a counter. A prime reaction noted “Conor McGregor is playing himself“; and it isn’t the only one.
Fans react to first Road House trailer, starring Conor McGregor
Former UFC champion Conor McGregor will star opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Prime Video’s new remake of the classic ’80s action movie “Road House”, marking his first major studio acting role. The all-star cast includes McGregor and the likes of Daniela Melchior, Jessica Williams, Lukas Gage, Hannah Love Lanier, and others as well.
Last year, Gyllenhaal filmed a scene with Ex-UFC fighter Jay Hieron following the UFC 285 ceremonial weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The scene was filmed live, including top honcho Dana White, play-by-play announcer Jon Anik, and others.
Now, the full first trailer has dropped, with minimal but spectacular footage of McGregor in an antagonistic role. The fighter boasts, warns and smashes as the apparent villain of the movie. Accordingly, here’s how the MMA community has reacted –
Mere hours ago, McGregor’s movie announcement on his IG stories had consequently garnered much hate towards a leaked scene of Gyllenhaal in the UFC octagon.
However, now fight fans have correspondingly voiced their piqued interest in the new footage. Many have incited a new conceptual spin on the movie, and on McGregor playing a role not unlike himself.
The Irishman is infamous for having some of the best trash-talking moments in promotional history. Accordingly, McGregor in a negative role has had much traction amongst fans. Only time will tell if the fighter can knock it out of the park with his usual performance output.
