UFC 299 just concluded with Sean O’Malley‘s first bantamweight title defense. There were notable attendees from different walks of life at the event. Donald Trump attended the event, and he received the loudest pop at the event. Conor McGregor did not attend the event but watched it from the Little Woodrow’s bar in New York.
McGregor came to the US to promote his debut movie, Road House. The video of McGregor watching the UFC event with fans at the bar went viral on social media. In the video, McGregor looked intoxicated. Interestingly, he did not pay much attention to the fight as it went on. Nonetheless, this is what he said in the video.

UFC 299 broke several records for a PPV that did not involve Conor McGregor. UFC CEO Dana White even gave bonuses to all the fighters who won via finish. Sean O’Malley also won a bonus for his dominant performance despite not finishing Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera. McGregor’s former foe, Dustin Poirier, also fought at UFC 299. Poirier defeated Benoit Saint-Denis in the co-main event.
McGregor recently pleaded with the UFC to make his comeback fight in June. He had already expressed interest in returning to the octagon. However, Dana White remarked in an interview that a post-summer return remains likely for the Irishman.
Conor McGregor applauded UFC 299 co-main event fight
Conor McGregor last fought at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier and has not fought since then. However, Poirier fought in his 4th fight since then at UFC 299. Poirier is 2-2 since his victory over Conor McGregor. In his fight at UFC 299, Poirier bagged a bonus for his finish of Benoit Saint-Denis.
McGregor watched the fight at a pub in New York, and he even applauded Poirier and Saint-Denis via tweet. Funnily enough, McGregor called both Saint-Denis and Poirier ‘French boys’ and even tagged French President Emmanuel Macron in the tweet.
Poirier came to know about the tweet and even responded hilariously. Poirier knocked out Saint-Denis with a right hook similar to when he knocked out McGregor in their rematch. Check out McGregor’s tweet below:
Therefore, he trolled McGregor as he stated that the Irishman had already tasted the power of his right hook. Poirier has French ancestry, but he does not speak the language. However, his father is fluent in French. Moreover, Poirier stated at the post-fight press conference that his ancestors were French-Canadians who had to settle in Louisiana.
