Conor McGregor provided his viewpoint on the main event of UFC 294. The bout was between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev. Makhachev head-kicked Volkanovski to the canvas and followed up with hammer fists and punches. Apparently, some hammer fists hit the back of the head, and McGregor noticed it.

In a deleted tweet, McGregor tweeted about what he felt was an illegal shot. This is what he tweeted on X about the stoppage.

A difficult sport to ref. To Stop that on a warning or a point deduction when Volk was essentially out already is a tricky one. But there would be grounds for it. 100%. Would have been nail-biting stuff. I'd have loved to see it happen. Back of the head shots are not good.

Hitting on the back of the head is an illegal blow in MMA that could result in a point deduction or a disqualification loss. Jon Jones famously lost via DQ due to an illegal blow. It remains Jones’ only defeat in professional MMA. Even though Makhachev hit Volkanovski on the back of the head, it also needs to be noted that Volkanovski was already out with the head kick.

Alexander Volkanovski vs Islam Makhachev was not the original main event for UFC 294. Volkanovski was a short-notice replacement for the injured former champion, Charles Oliveira. Volkanovski was set to face Ilia Topuria at UFC 297. However, it remains to be seen whether Volkanovski can serve the mandatory medical suspension in three months to be available for the event.

This is what Conor McGregor had to say about John Cena when asked about WWE during the media day of UFC 202.

He's 40 years of age. He's walking around in an illuminous orange t-shirt and head band talking about nobody can see him. We can see him right there. He is a big fat 40 year old failed Mr. Olympia.

Interestingly, McGregor showed deep respect for the old-school professional wrestlers. He showered respect on Vince McMahon, Ric Flair, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, McGregor deeply resented the character of the professional wrestlers of the PG era. Interestingly, the UFC and WWE are under the same holding company, TKO.
