The new year hasn’t been nice to former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Ever since ‘The Predator’ became a free agent, he hasn’t been able to land himself a contract. After a dispute with the UFC in terms and agreements with the contract, the 36-year-old Francis Ngannou left the promotion in order to fight in other combat sports establishments.

Ngannou reportedly has high financial demands for signing a contract and many have voiced their criticisms regarding this. The fighter had recently announced that he was in “serious” talks with Singaporean combat sports promotion ONE FC. One Championship’s President, Chatri Sityodtong expressed his interest in signing Francis Ngannou “the biggest offer on the table out of all his bids.” Or at least that’s what he said on The MMA Hour.

A recent update on the deal suggests that negotiations between Ngannou and promotion have fallen apart. On Monday, Chatri Sityodtong released a statement saying, “After careful reflection, we decided not to submit our final offer… Francis is a good guy and a good champion. I wish him continued success and happiness. At the end of the day, I didn’t feel Francis and I were fully aligned on non-financial matters. It is nothing personal. It is just a lack of alignment.

Francis Ngannou had reportedly turned down a heavy purse offered by the UFC to fight Jon Jones. Ngannou was the reigning UFC Heavyweight champion when he left the UFC. Thereafter, Jon Jones fought Ciryl Gane and claimed the vacated title.

The news of Francis Ngannou‘s failed bid with ONE Championship was picked up by various social media tabs and went viral on Twitter. Conor McGregor reacted to the news rather aggressively, tweeting “This chatri guy is a lying dishonorable mouth piece. One championship is not one worth one cent.” The UFC star later deleted the tweet.

McGregor and Chatri had a little tiff back in 2017 when the UFC and ONE were involved in an exchange deal. Chatri Sityodtong had reportedly told CNN that his promotion wouldn’t sign the UFC star even if he was a free agent. “If Conor McGregor was a free agent, ONE Championship would not try to sign him. We don’t want somebody to swear at people, throw water bottles, disrespect people, call out people’s wives and children, and – in my opinion – other distasteful stuff that is not representative of true martial arts,” Sityodtong said.

Meanwhile, Francis Ngannou is reportedly in talks with another promotion and on the verge of signing a new deal. According to Ariel Helwani, the new venture would have “an MMA component and a boxing component” to it. “Francis is very close to signing a new deal with another promotion,” Helwani said. According to him, Chatri may have issued the statement to cover the failure of bidding for Ngannou in time.
