Conor McGregor was immensely happy for Sean O’Malley and Ian Garry for winning their bouts at UFC 292. The Irishman also showered praise on O’Malley for his finish of Aljamain Sterling, which resembled McGregor knocking out Jose Aldo. Moreover, The Notorious posted on his X, saying, “He did the exact same thing.”

The former Lightweight Champion is known for his hilarious responses to UFC fights. O’Malley, who met McGregor in person during a recent sporting event, has the potential to become the next big superstar. The support that the Bantamweight Champion received from the Boston crowd was similar to what McGregor received during his earlier fight days.

The Irishman, who has been inactive since breaking his leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier, still remains the biggest superstar in the UFC. At UFC 194, McGregor swiftly knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds. On the other hand, Sean O’Malley secured his victory early in the second round.

The only distinction between the two bouts was their orthodox-southpaw stances. Jon Anik repeatedly highlighted O’Malley’s remarkable striking skills, which were on full display during the finish. Despite both fighters being underdogs in their respective title matches, there were several parallels between the two fights.

With this triumph, the UFC plans to feature Sean O’Malley in more prominent matchups over the upcoming months. The victory became even sweeter considering his pre-fight injury. On the other hand, McGregor’s next fight is presumably against Michael Chandler.

The two were coaches at TUF 31 and have been touted to headline the UFC pay-per-view in early 2024. USADA regulations are forcing McGregor’s comeback fight. With McGregor gaining significant size during his rehabilitation, his comeback fight would be in a higher weight class.

Michael Chandler has the skills to beat Conor McGregor

Michael Chandler, a credentialed collegiate wrestler, has yet to fully utilize this since his debut in the UFC. He has emphasized that his UFC journey is about enjoying the moment rather than a lengthy career. His record stands at 2-3 in terms of wins and losses within the organization.

Chandler’s inclination has likely shifted away from wrestling, favoring a stand-up approach with a focus on intense exchanges. This strategy has endeared him to fans due to its excitement, though it has somewhat diminished his pursuit of championship goals.

Conor McGregor is arguably the most accurate counterpuncher the UFC has ever seen. If Chandler chooses to stand and bang with the Irishman, he will likely get his lights put out. No other fighter in the UFC has the type of counter-attacking prowess that the Notorious has. Even though Chandler has fought Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, McGregor is a different beast.

The path of least resistance for Chandler is obviously wrestling. It is worth noting that the wrestling approach might have gotten him victories over Gaethje and Poirier, but he didn’t use it. So, it is safe to say that Chandler would be going in guns blazing in the event of a McGregor fight.
