A possible fistfight nearly erupted on Capitol Hill during a Senate hearing. This altercation was between GOP Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma and Sean O’Brien, head of the Teamsters union. The event occurred at a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, Labour, and Pensions Committee. During this, Mullin, a former MMA fighter, remembered a June Twitter argument with O’Brien. UFC star Conor McGregor chimed in on this situation as well.
The argument heated up when Markwayne Mullin read aloud O’Brien’s tweet, in which O’Brien challenged Mullin to an MMA bout for charity. Mullin answered by proposing that they get up and resolve the problem physically right then and there. This is how Conor McGregor reacted to this. He posted a tweet with this caption:
Decent back and forth. We can do this at @ufc 300.Conor McGregor via X
Mullin stood up after both guys consented to the confrontation. Senator Bernie Sanders broke up the altercation. He intervened and reminded Mullin that he was a United States senator. Despite their intense exchanges, Mullin and O’Brien appeared to agree to resolve their differences over coffee.
These incidents gained attention not just because of the possibility of physical altercations but also because of the tense political climate around them. Conor McGregor’s humorous spin on this made the situation a bit less tense.
Conor McGregor reignites feud with former Boxing champion
Conor McGregor, the UFC superstar, has reignited his feud with the former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi. After an injury break, McGregor, preparing to return to the UFC Octagon in 2024, turned to social media to criticize Malignaggi. This reignited a spat during their partnership for McGregor’s boxing debut against Floyd Mayweather in 2017.
McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi’s rocky relationship originates from their rigorous sparring sessions during McGregor’s boxing camp. This resulted in a rift that has persisted over the years. McGregor, known for his outspoken demeanor and propensity to make headlines, recently lashed out at Malignaggi by replying with his name to a tweet that said:
Who is the worst world champion of all time? Besides Paulie malignaggiJoe Calzaghe via X
Paulie Malignaggi, a former world champion in the welterweight and light welterweight divisions, retired from professional boxing in March 2017. This decision came after losing the WBC welterweight championship against Sam Eggington. Despite his retirement, Malignaggi fought in a Bare Knuckle FC 6 match against Artem Lobov, a former colleague of McGregor’s. In addition, in 2021, he competed in an exhibition boxing battle, winning over Corey Bonalewicz.
