Conor McGregor is a global star when it comes to mixed martial arts. Now, he is making his reach wider with his Hollywood debut ‘Road House’. It featured Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role playing an ex-UFC fighter. As such, the film involved a lot of action and fight sequences. Now, ‘The Notorious’ explained his experience doing stunts coming from the actual fighting world.
Recently, Conor McGregor joined the film critic Jake Hamilton for an interview alongside some other co-stars. As such, Hamilton questioned how difficult it was for the Irishman to learn not to hit actors, given his prowess in MMA. McGregor amusingly, also quite shockingly stated he was green-lit to hit his co-stars including Jake Gyllenhaal.
The thing about that is (acting like hitting others), you'd be surprised, that's not what they said. They said 'Hit the guy'. I said 'Okay, no problem'. I was very surprised. The whole cast was strong and we all had a mission and it was a lot of fun.Conor McGregor (via Jake’s Takes)
It was a shocking revelation. Further, McGregor demonstrated to Jake Hamilton how he punched his co-actors while filming. As such, the Irishman tipped his hat to the film’s stunt coordinator Gareth Warren for making the stunt sequences realistic. He even unveiled using the unique ‘Four-Pass Method’ while shooting to capture the action sequences as realistic as possible. The film’s trailer also showcased some astonishing action scenes.
McGregor known for his accomplishments in the MMA sphere now has ventured into Hollywood. However, his career in the octagon hasn’t ended as the Irishman wanted to return this year. Expectedly, he is to face Michael Chandler in June. However, the UFC has made no official announcements.
Conor McGregor compares the fighting world with the actions on a film set
‘Road House’ is one of the most anticipated Hollywood films in recent times, especially among the MMA fanbase. UFC star Conor McGregor is making his acting debut with this film. Currently, he carries out the promotional duties of the film and has given many interviews. In an interview with ‘Black Girl Nerds’, the MMA fighter compared the two worlds of acting and fighting.
At first, Conor McGregor detailed his experience of executing stunts in action sequences. As such, he went on to state how difficult it was for him to adapt to the shooting realm, coming from professional fighting. He claimed it was more intense than he had expected and even exaggerated to say professional fighting was easier than filming.
It's a lot more intense than I anticipated. In fact, fighting is easy to it. You show up for a fight, you're here, there for an hour for training. You go home, you rest, you sleep, you get a nap. You wake up, you go again. On the movie set, you're going and you're going and you're going and it's a lot more unpredictable. It's a lot more wild."Conor McGregor (via Black Girl Nerds)
Nonetheless, both fighting and action stunts have their own set of challenges. It required dedication to accomplish them to get the desired result. However, coming from McGregor who has experienced both the arenas, there has to be some truth to it. Road House premiered on March 08 at the SXSW Festival and will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from March 21.
