Conor McGregor provided his take on the end of Showtime Sports. This came after his online banter with Mexican superstar boxer Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. McGregor’s X post bashed Showtime and boxing while praising the UFC and MMA.

McGregor actually retweeted the post on X handle, mcgregorufc22 who posted the video of McGregor and his family on his yacht with the caption, “Conor McGregor coming in Lamborghini 63 yacht to beat Canelo with one foot.” Conor McGregor’s tweet was, ” Showtime and hbo boxing is dead. But the @ufc is here and thriving. If you fighters in denial ever build up the courage to step in to the cage and fight. The time is now! Full circle. #FightersinDenial #nowhereelsetogo #chickenshits #cornflakenosugar.”McGregor was probably taking an indirect jab at Canelo Alvarez, with whom he had a recent online feud.

Truth to be noted is that the UFC is indeed thriving. It is the fastest-growing promotion in the US and also in the world. The UFC is growing exponentially at a rate equipped to beat other premier sports leagues in the US. Notably, the NBA and MLB have dipped in their audiences in recent years. Only the NFL boasts bigger numbers than the UFC. But the exciting thing to note is that the share of revenue that the fighters get remains far lower than other sports leagues.

One reason for the UFC’s success is that it is unrivaled. However, with the rumored merging of Bellator MMA with PFL, the UFC could have a rival on their doorstep. The PFL has already signed notable names like Cedric Doumbe and Francis Ngannou. Moreover, the acquisition of Bellator MMA would mean that the high profile names like AJ McKee, Pitbull Brothers, Yaroslav Amosov, Johnny Eblen, and Usman Nurmagomedov, to name a few, would fight under the PFL banner.
