Francis Ngannou nearly pulled off the most shocking upset in boxing history just after midnight on Saturday in Riyadh. Despite never having fought as a boxer before, he dominated the unbeaten world heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury. The bout was full of Ngannou relentlessly bullying, pushing, clubbing, hitting, and dropping tactics.
The Irishman, Conor McGregor was one of the many who were unhappy with the decision veering towards Fury at the end. Post-fight, “The Notorious” took to Instagram. He said:
If it was MMA, this right here is a massacre. Fair play to Francis, and fair play to Tyson for taking the unknown challenge. Francis won despite what the judges say (albeit under boxing rules over 10 rounds, it was close!) Both fought valiantly. Respect.

Many doubted Ngannou’s ability to last until the final bell in the fight against Fury. The former UFC heavyweight champion, however, managed to knock Fury down and bring the match to a close split decision ruling. Fury described the night as not being one of his best.
Many people have reacted badly to the ruling. In light of Ngannou’s knock down “superman” punch in the third round, and overall athleticism, Ngannou has been considered the true victor by many. As such, Ngannou has expressed his wish for an MMA return against Fury.

Ngannou, at heart is accustomed to MMA; with this being his pro-Boxing debut. Fury might not be chiseled like his opponent, but he is rightfully the champion. Hence, going into the fight, McGregor, who makes his return soon, had the proposition of Ngannou sweeping the bigger opponent’s legs.
After the fight, Fury criticized his performance in the split decision victory against Ngannou. In an interview with Boxing King Media, he even said that his timing was off and he deserved a rest.
