Amanda Nunes became the first woman in UFC history to hold two belts at the same time, making this title bout one of the finest in UFC history, with Nunes winning a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for the knockout.
Cyborg’s defeat was her first since her professional debut and ended a 20-fight winning streak spanning more than 13 years. Cyborg then joined with Bellator and won the women’s featherweight title in her first bout.
Cris Cyborg disregarded her game strategy during the 2019 Title Defense
Cris jumped on a tweet which asked which UFC rematches, which never came to pass, fans would like to see happen. One of the very first replies to the tweet was Cyborg vs Nunes. Cyborg replied to the tweet by writing about her experience.
She explained that the hardships associated with that fight card meant that she threw out her game plan while being overly aggressive during the fight. This led to her being finished in the first round by Nunes. She had been sidelined for 9 months preceding the fight which would eventually be shifted from New Vegas to Los Angeles adding to her troubles. She had also changed managers which obviously would give rise to some friction.
“… made me fight too aggressive and abandon the game plan. The fight made me a better fighter and woman today though, ” said Cris Cyborg via Twitter.
It doesn’t seem like she was only left with negativity from the experience as she admits that it made her a better fighter and woman, a lost the battle but won the war kinda thing.
