After nearly a decade, MMA veteran Dan Hardy will put on his fighting gloves. The British fighter is set to take on fellow veteran, Diego Sanchez in a boxing match.

Diego Sanchez and Dan Hardy will meet each other on July 2 at the AO Arena in Manchester, England. Both the fighters have fought in the UFC for a long time but will be facing each other for the first time. On his return, Hardy will step into a boxing ring and fight Sanchez in an eight, two-minute round match. The two MMA fighters are set to fight on the undercard of the event headlined by Ricky Hatton and Marco Antonio Barrera.

Dan’s last fight in the UFC came in 2012 against Amir Sadollah at UFC on Fuel TV 5. Hardy stopped fighting after he was diagnosed with a Wolff-Parkinson-White pattern. Diego on the other hand is still fighting professionally in MMA. After being cut off from the UFC roster, Sanchez managed to land a fight against Kevin Lee at Eagle FC.

Dan Hardy thanks organizations like BKFC for taking such good care of their fighters

Hardy used to serve as a commentator for the UFC, but he completely cut ties with the organization after he got into a dispute with Herb Dean. He’s been an advocate for fighter pay, and he claims the amount of money he’s being paid for this boxing match puts UFC to the shame.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, he said, “The honest truth is this is a good middle ground financially, because what we were being offered for MMA was pitiful, and what was being offered for bare-knuckle was three times what we were being offered for exhibition boxing. I could either fight him in MMA, and we’d have to fight four or five times to make the same money, or I could fight him in bare-knuckle.”

He added, “This is the turning of the tide when people like Diego and I, we make a bit of money toward the end of our career because this is what we do, we’re prize fighters and people put a prize on the table – the one that’s standing at the end takes the prize. You could add all my paychecks together from UFC and I’m still making more doing this.”
