“You’re killing me”-Dana White abruptly rejects the idea of bringing back Pride Rules

After merging PRIDE into the UFC in 2007, UFC president Dana White stated that they will use Unified Rules. Pride was one of the leading MMA promotions in the world during the 2000s. PRIDE was bought by Zuffa Llc. Which was the then parent company of the UFC in March of 2007. The sale was reported to be $65 million.
The fall of PRIDE started after, Fuji Network terminated their television contract caused a breach of contract. It was reported that due to Pride FC’s affiliations with the notorious mafia group from the yakuza crime organization the contract was terminated.
Originally after Zuffa acquired Pride FC their original plan was to host events in Japan as usual. Although the original plan never came into play due to a number of reasons. After this Pride, FC was merged into the UFC and all its footage and media library are now owned by the UFC.
Pride Fighting Championship was an MMA promotion that originated in Japan. Pride was founded in 1997 by businessman, Nobuyuki Sakakibara, in Tokyo, Japan. Pride has put on many events in its run during the 2000s. A lot of big names including Fedor, Silva, Crocop, Rampage, and many more have fought in the promotion.
Dana White prefers the Unified rules over the barbaric Pride rules
While the UFC uses unified rules which are deemed much safer. On the other hand Pride rules were significantly more violent. There are a lot of differences between the two promotion rules. Subsequently, when the fighter was to switch promotions after the merger. They also had to change their game plan according to the new rules.
In an old clip posted on Instagram by Xcellent MMA of the UFC President at a press conference of UFC 138: Leben vs. Muñoz. The Fan asks a question about whether there’s any chance of bringing back Pride rules for a Japanese crowd.
The UFC president seemingly has a hard time understanding the question. After the fan repeats the question he laughingly says, “You’re killing me over there, braveheart.” and then rejects the idea of bringing back Pride rules.
Although Pride FC has been merged into the UFC, White is still open to the idea of reviving it. A lot of MMA fans who followed the Pride FC events consider Pride as the greatest MMA promotion to date.
