Conor McGregor might fight his rival Michael Chandler in December’s PPV card in Las Vegas. The Irishman coached against Chandler on the latest season of The Ultimate Fighter. Both fighters remain eager to fight each other, but Dana White recently became the bearer of bad news.
Rumors about the fight on December 16 began to emerge, which excited the fans. Dana White addressed the alleged leak of UFC 296 and stated that it did not come from the UFC. Furthermore, White said, “I don’t know how that got out or whatever. It wasn’t from Fight Pass.” White clarified that he would have reported the news on his Instagram if the leak were real. The rumor started when someone posted a screenshot of a UFC streaming service leak on Twitter.
The screenshot showed a listing for a December 16 pay-per-view event called Chandler vs. McGregor: UFC 296. Furthermore, White and his teams believe that an AI caused the leak and that it was not real. The reporters asked White about McGregor’s potential return to the UFC in December after learning about the fake news. However, Dana White said he has no idea and will have to see how things play out by then.
White’s answer reflects Conor McGregor’s uncertain status and the complications that the USADA may pose. Furthermore, everyone assumes that McGregor will fail the USADA test and the UFC might find other ways to push for a McGregor return.
Dana White comments on Sean O’Malley wanting the co-main event at Conor McGregor’s return
Sean O’Malley impressed everyone with his performance against Aljamain Sterling in the main event of UFC 292. Subsequently, O’Malley has expressed his desire to be the co-main event on a card featuring Conor McGregor.
While the Irishman has yet to announce a date for his comeback, reports suggest him training for a potential fight with Michael Chandler. White was asked about his thoughts on this. He said, “ It doesn’t surprise me, you can tell that O’Malley respects Conor and what he built and what he’s done. So it makes sense.”
Furthermore, O’Malley has shared how McGregor reached out to him on Instagram after his UFC 292 victory. Hence, once McGregor decides to return, O’Malley may be the co-main in his fight card.
