Fans of the fight of Donald Cerone vs Joe Lauzon, once again are going to certainly be left disappointed.

After heaving being cancelled numerous just before the highly anticipated fight day, the battle between the two lightweight veterans will most likely not see a third-time booking. Cerrone and Lauzon, who have UFC stats of 23-13 and 15-12 respectively, were going to face off against the co0-man event of UFC Fight Night, which was to be held in Austin, on the 18th of June.

Lauzon was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an injury that left his left knee seized up after the official weigh-ins. He was not able to walk, hence his withdrawal from the fight itself. This is going to be the second time the match had to be called off. Initially, the first time the two were to fight at the UFC 274 this May but Cerrone came down with a food poisoning the morning of as he was unwell to continue on.

It seems like the UFC’s interest in this pairing’s match-up has fallen and Dana White has made it clear in a recent press conference as it reflects shades of Ferguson vs Nurmagomedov. White told reporters at the post-fight press conference, “That thing (Cerone vs Lauzon) is getting like Tony and Khabib .”  He adds saying, “No, I will not book that fight again.”

Ferguson vs. Nurmagomedov is an infamous fan favourite pairing that just wasn’t meant to be. The two fighters were paired nearly 5 times and each time the bouts were called off for one reason or the other. Eventually, the promotion passed up on the opportunity to see them together.

When can we expect Donald Cerrone and Joe Lauzon back in the ring?

At the present, Lauzon has acknowledged following Saturday’s postponement that the actual nature of his ailment is unknown due to a suspected dislocation of his knee, and his return to the octagon is unknown. In Cerrone’s case, the UFC has already actively started talking about various alternatives and is hoping to book a bout somewhere in the coming months. However, Cerrone looks like he is in no hurry to be set up so quickly and even attended the UFC Fight Night, Austin as a spectator.

Dana White even commented about Cerrone’s possible return saying, “He just cut that weight yesterday. We sit, and we wanted to see if he wanted to fight in July, but he doesn’t want to cut weight again, so he won’t fight in July. We’ll figure something else out with him.”

Donald Cerrone has lost all six of his UFC fights in a row. The 39-year-old has lost all of his bouts since May 2018. His most recent victory came in May 2019, when he defeated Al Iaquinta by unanimous decision. Lauzon was seeking to return for his first fight since a first-round TKO of Jonathan Pearce in front of his local Boston audience in October 2019.
