“Whoever they call the winner,” Dana White fine with judges’ decision to give Josh Emmett victory over Calvin Kattar at UFC Austin
Dana White- Calvin Kattar vs Josh Emmett
On entertainment and controversy, the main event of UFC Austin delivered and UFC President Dana White has given his verdict on this fight, a featherweight clash between Josh Emmett and Calvin Kattar. In the end, Emmett got his hands raised by the official judges’ scorecard via split decision, unlike many fans unofficially who thought that Kattar was robbed of his victory. Emmett is now on a five-fight winning streak. Also, regardless of the decision, this could be one of the most intense non-title fights between two featherweights witnessed in a long time.
Other than that, we got 9 finishes out of the entire fight card, the bonus earners included the likes of Kevin Holland, Phil Hawes, Adrian Yanez, Joaquin Buckley and many more. The main event was considered the Fight of the Night. For Kattar, he might’ve just put himself under pressure for a bigger aim for a more remarkable statement in the 145 lbs division in his future fights. Regardless, fans and celebrities have cheered both the fighters for an amazing fight whilst criticizing the judges’ scoring.
Dana White saw Josh Emmett vs Calvin Kattar scrap as a ‘tight fight’
In the post-event interview, White said that the judges did a fair job while scoring for Emmett and Kattar and the fight was so close that the winner could be seen from either side and still it would’ve made sense.
“Whoever they called the winner, I would’ve been fine with,” says White “I mean that was a very close fight, right up to the last round, obviously I gave the last round to Kattar but it was a tight fight,” he concluded.
What do you make of White’s comments about the main event scoring? Who do you think is next for Kattar and Emmett in their respective fighting career? Do you think Emmett will be the next world champion? The current UFC 145 lbs champion, Alexander Volkanovski will defend his title for the fourth time in a trilogy against preceding champion Max Holloway on July 2022 at UFC 276.
