“How can I say no to him?” Dana White has high praise for Kamaru Usman’s ambition to fight for light heavyweight title
Kamaru Usman and Dana White
Dana White might not be the biggest fan of welterweight champion Kamaru Usman moving up two weight classes and fighting for the belt. However, the UFC boss won’t be in the way of Kamaru’s ambitions.
Kamaru Usman is undoubtedly one of the greatest, if not THE greatest welterweight fighter to ever grace the UFC octagon. His reign as the champion of the most-stacked division is one of the best in history. For someone who is an undisputed Hall-of-Famer, Dana White doesn’t think he has the right to stop him from trying out something that is very ambitious for any fighter to think of.
Kamaru Usman has almost run through the entire welterweight division not once but twice. The Nigerian Nightmare is on his way to making his next title defense as the champion of the division this weekend at UFC 278. In the lead-up to this fight, Usman has made it clear that after a win against Leon Edwards, his next move would be to fight for the light heavyweight title. This is a wild move for anyone to make, skipping a weightclass and fighting for the title has never been done before.

“He’s the pound-for-pound greatest in the world, he’s the best welterweight of all time, if he wants to move to heavyweight, I’ll do it,” said Dana talking to Aaron from TSN. “I wouldn’t tell him no. I just don’t think it’s a good idea. I’m not his manager, I’m not his trainer. I’m his promoter,” added White.
“This guy fights all the time, never turns down a fight, never backs down from anybody, has to fight guys two times in a row, and never says no, so why would I say no to him?” said White on why he would let Kamaru do whatever he wanted in his time in the UFC.
