Before Saturday’s UFC 280 event in Abu Dhabi, where TJ Dillashaw will challenge champion Aljamain Sterling for the championship, UFC President Dana White outlined how Dillashaw handled his positive drug test and ensuing punishment much better than the norm.

After losing to Henry Cejudo in a flyweight title match in 2019, Dillashaw tested positive for recombinant human erythropoietin. Dillashaw was given a two-year suspension by the USADA. Dillashaw publicly acknowledged using illegal substances after getting tested for using PED.

Speaking to Barstool Sports White Said, “First of all, the guy is probably, and I don’t know this for a fact, but I would assume he’s one of the most tested guys in the company right now…USADA is probably all over him. But I think he made a mistake, and he handled it like a man. I’ll tell you what: We’ve had a lot of guys in the history of this company who have been busted for steroids and handled it the exact opposite way. They handled it not like men. Dillashaw did. He took it on the chin. You’ve got to respect him for that.”

Dillashaw is 1-0 after his ban including a triumph over Cory Sandhagen. He’ll become the first athlete in UFC history to hold three reigns at the bantamweight championship if he triumphs over Sterling.

According to UFC bantamweight championship contender TJ Dillashaw, Champion Aljamain Sterling is “not threatening“. Three years after being forced to give up the bantamweight title after failing a drugs test, T.J. Dillashaw is attempting to recapture it in the octagon.

Sterling, in Dillashaw’s opinion, is not the kind of opponent that gives competitors the same kind of concern as a strong hitter would and is not threatening. Dillashaw stated to Mirror Fighting why the reigning champion doesn’t intimidate him.

Dillashaw said, “He’s not a very threatening fighter…He’s not the type of guy you fight and go ‘oh my God, not Aljamain Sterling! What if I’m a highlight reel knockout?’ Nah. They made highlights of all the fighters on the card leading up to this to promote the card and they couldn’t make one of Aljamain Sterling. They can’t make a highlight tape on him because he has no f***ing highlights!”

In order to earn his chance at the championship, Dillashaw faced off against Sandhagen, a top-tier attacker, and he was filled with confidence coming into this fight.
