“Don’t think that’ll stop them”- Dana White is confident about booking Colby Covington vs Jorge Masvidal despite legal troubles

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington are currently fighting each other in the Florida legal system over a battery case. Because of the tension surrounding their battle, fans speculated whether any of them would return to the ring.
Based on how the UFC handled previous legal issues, it was assumed that the promotion would simply distance itself. For example, after a hit-and-run incident, Jon Jones’ Light Heavyweight title was stripped and he was suspended. Even after Conor McGregor attacked a bus carrying UFC fighters, he was not booked to fight by the promotion. So it was reasonable to expect that we would not see the fighters in the ring again.
During the UFC Austin post-fight press conference, Dana White discussed the case and its impact on future fight pairings. He tells at the press conference, “We’ve had guys have legal situations and still fight. I don’t think that’ll stop them from fighting.”
So it appears Dana White isn’t bothered by the legal issue and is willing to let two of his top welterweights fight if they so desire. This gives them the opportunity to fight before the court case is decided.
Recap on the Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal legal battle
Even before their welterweight fight at UFC 272 on March 5, Colby Covington and Jorge Masvidal had been feuding. However, their relationship appears to be irreparable after Colby defeated Jorge. Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside the Papi Steak restaurant in Miami following the latter’s victory.
Covington allegedly suffered a fractured tooth, an abrasion on his wrist, and damage to his Rolex watch as a result of the attack. Covington immediately filed charges against Masvidal and was arrested.The victim later claimed that the attack caused him to suffer a brain injury.
Based on these facts, we can assume that Masvidal is debating whether or not he wants to focus on a fight camp while facing a potential prison sentence, and also if Covington’s claim of a brain injury is legitimate, if he accepts a fight.
