Dana White says winner of Jose Aldo vs Merab Dvalishvili could get title shot
UFC legend Jose Aldo would be pleased to know that his dream of becoming the bantamweight champion might happen sooner than he thought. Dana White has revealed that the Brazilian’s next fight might as well be a title eliminator fight.
35-year-old Jose Aldo is currently fighting in his second career as a bantamweight fighter after all his achievements in the featherweight division in the past decade as the undisputed champion. Recently the promotion announced a line of fights and Aldo has found a match in rising bantamweight fighter Merab Dvalishvili. Aldo is currently ranked #3 while his opponent is ranked #6.
The two fighters are set to take on each other in a bantamweight bout at the amazing pay-per-view event of UFC 278. The two will fight it off for the crowd at Salt Lake City and hope to impress the boss to give them a title shot in their next fight.
This fight is very special for Merab as he gets to fight a legend in Aldo but the fight will have special attention from the former champ given UFC boss Dana White in a recent interview with MacLife suggested that the winner of the fight might go on to fight for the 135-pound title. Aldo has been chasing that dream for quite some time now and is determined to prove his doubters wrong with gold wrapped around his waist once again in his career.

“Incredible opportunity for Merab. You know he came off looking for a fight and look where’s he at now? He is fighting Jose Aldo. What’s Jose? Top 5 in the world right now? Huge opportunity for him [Merab] not only to get into the top five but beat a legend,” said White talking about Dvalishvili getting to share the octagon with a legend like Jose.
“Obviously Jose is phenomenal for how long he’s held on and still here competing. He could be in line for another title shot,” said White. Jose is now currently on a three-fight winning streak beating the #5 Marlon Vera, #7 Rob Font, and #10 Pedro Munhoz. Since his win against Font, Aldo has called out the champion Aljamain Sterling for a title shot but has not got a positive response. Dana’s words would surely be pleasing for the UFC legend.
Dvalishvili on the other hand is on a 7-fight winning streak and gets a well-deserved top-ranked opponent. Either of these fighters could end up being next in line for the title. All they have to do is beat their opponent in a convincing manner and get the Salt Lake City crowd on their feet with their performance.
