UFC’s lineup in 2024 looked exhilarating with stacked PPV cards. Also, with the historic UFC 300 taking place this year, the hype for that fight card was humongous. Earlier, the UFC announced a few fights for UFC 300. But, still, they kept the main event a mystery. As such, speculations went around the internet that a retired UFC star like Georges St-Pierre, Ronda Rousey, or Brock Lesnar was making their return. Now, UFC CEO Dana White addressed the rumors and gave clarity about UFC 300.
In a recent interview with Sportsnet, the interviewer questioned Dana White whether the likes of Brock Lesnar, Georges St-Pierre, or Ronda Rousey were to return for UFC 300. As such, White replied none of them were coming with the tonality suggesting a mockery of the question. Here is what he said:
Ronda’s not coming back. GSP’s not coming back. Brock Lesnar’s like 45 years old or pushing 50. None of those calls were made. I don’t think there’s going to be anything out of left field.Dana White via Sportsnet
Earlier, Brock Lesnar made a comeback for UFC 200 after a lengthy lay-off. This instance made the UFC fans call for a similar matchup to make UFC 300 a special one. On the other hand, George St-Pierre last competed in 2017 and announced his retirement. Further, he stated never to make a return to MMA. Also, Ronda Rousey pursued a pro wrestling career after she left the UFC and didn’t show any signs of a comeback in years. As for Lesnar, he was over 45 years old, making it almost impossible for a UFC comeback.
UFC 300 got bigger day by day as marquee fights were announced. Even this week, Dana White announced the BMF championship fight between Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway. Still, fans expected an out-of-the-box matchup with retired stars making a comeback.
Dana White promises UFC 300 would be nothing like before
UFC 300 marks a monumental feat in the history of the UFC. As such, the hype for the event only increased as the historic day neared. So far, UFC CEO Dana White has announced eight interesting fights for UFC 300. Now, after dismissing the rumors of any retired UFC star returning, White insisted on the specialty of the card and shared his intention behind building the historic card.
In a recent interview with Sportsnet, Dana White mentioned every fight in UFC 300 would be a must-watch. He added every fight carried its importance to it and referenced Jim Miller’s fight in the card. Miller will face Bobby Green and have a crack at the lightweight rankings. As such, White confirmed the fight between Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan served as a #1 contenders fight. Here is what he said:
Not only every fight is a must-see, every fight is important. Jim Miller breaking in to the top 15 at his age and what he's been able to do, the run he's been on. Yes, that's a number one contenders fight (on Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan) ...This is just going to be a type of card we’ve never done before.
