MMA fans worldwide were ecstatic to see UFC veteran Chris Weidman back in the ring and fighting. Even though he lost to Brad Tavares, Weidman gained the respect of the MMA community once again. Weidman showed the fans that he still can fight against good fighters. UFC President Dana White feels that Weidman has done enough for the sport and should consider retirement.
During the post-fight press conference, White spoke about Weidman’s knee injury he faced against Tavares. He said, “Depending on the damage to the knee, you’re talking another year. So I would say: ‘Chris, I love you. Please, please retire. I love his family too”. He also spoke about how being a father in combat sports is tough and that Weidman should take care of his health.
The bout began evenly, with both fighters assessing each other. However, Tavares quickly took control, unleashing a series of leg kicks that slowed Weidman down. Weidman attempted to respond, but Tavares was the more successful striker. Tavares’ leg kicks grew even more powerful in the following rounds. Weidman was limping and having trouble getting around. Tavares won the fight via unanimous decision.
Weidman’s loss was upsetting since he hoped to make a successful comeback to the UFC. Tavares, on the other hand, deserves credit for a dominant performance. He had a substantial edge in takedowns, landing 41 of 45 important strikes to Weidman. Fans will look forward to seeing Weidman make a decision about his career.
Dana White praises Chris Weidman’s career
The All-American’s career has been full of ups and downs, from winning the championship to suffering one of the most gruesome injuries. Weidman is a very underrated fighter. He isn’t as stylish as some of the other top middleweights, but he’s a force to be reckoned with. He is a complete fighter with the ability to win battles in a number of ways.
