The recent incident with Conor McGregor hitting Burnie, the official mascot for the Miami Heat basketball team during the NBA finals has been discussed by UFC CEO Dana White.
In order to advertise his painkiller spray, TIDL Sport, McGregor made an on-court appearance during the fourth game of the NBA finals. In what looked like a pre-planned skit, The Miami Heat’s mascot Burnie wore huge boxing gloves and a robe to the Irishman. McGregor participated with total commitment and punched the mascot with a left punch and dropped him. After that, it was followed by a hammer fist.
White was asked about the same during the post-fight press conference at UFC 289 and the UFC president couldn’t find the sense in it at all. “I saw the Deontay Wilder one, too. What’s up with mascots wanting to get punched in the face by professional fighters. What do you expect? I mean what are those mascot things made out of? Unless you’re like the Golden Knights mascot, I don’t even know what the hell he wears but I’m assuming it’s a metal helmet, I wouldn’t have professional fighters punching me in the face if I was a mascot. Doesn’t seem like the brightest thing in the world,” said Dana White. Previously Dana reacted hilariously if he would give Conor McGregor a title shot for knocking out the Mascot.
Apparently, after the incident, the guy wearing the Burnie costume had to go to the ER. The man is reportedly doing okay after some time and was given pain medicine for his suffering.
