“We were DRINKING,” Dana White reacts to Nate Diaz’s story of getting into a hostile altercation with White years ago
Nate Diaz- Dana White
Dana White has been on a roll with the UFC for a very long time, but there are times when White has not been on a roll with certain fighters, even huge stars of the company. The UFC was founded in 1993 by businessman Art Davie and martial-artist Rorian Gracie. The company followed a tournament system until it was sold to the Fertitta brothers alongside White’s assistance and under the Zuffa banner in 2001. The company’s evaluation then was $2 million. When Zuffa was sold to WME-IMG, its evaluation was $4.1 billion. For sure, this is the greatest rising of a promotion and a sport ever seen in such a short span of time.
White had his own friends and enemies made within the UFC, especially amongst the fighters. When talking about those who he is heated against, UFC Hall of Famers Randy Couture and Tito Ortiz are on the top of that list. Case in point, before becoming the UFC President, White used to be Ortiz’s manager. Then there are fighters like Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov against whom White has the utmost respect and what they’ve done for the company.
Dana White laughs off the Nate Diaz story to avoid any further associated questions
Another fighter that White has deep, cordial relations with is now bidding farewell to the company this weekend, with UFC megastar Nate Diaz having his last fight at UFC 279 against Khamzat Chimaev in T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Recently, in an interview with ESPN MMA, Diaz recalled the time when he and White nearly got into a fight. White reacted to the story in a short yet worth noticing way.
“Allegedly, we were drinking,” and White just shuns down any further questions associated by laughing and asking for other questions.
What do you make of White’s amusing reaction to the Diaz story involving him? Who do you think wins between Diaz and Chimaev this weekend? Where do you put the UFC among the greatest sports association of all time? Who do you think will take White’s place the day he decides to leave the Presidency? Sure enough, both Diaz and White have moved on from their near hostile situation and while Diaz has a lot of negative stuff to say about the UFC, he respects White regardless of anything.
