“Normal Rockhold babble” – Dana White refutes Luke Rockhold’s dream of a title shot in the near future

Dana White doesn’t think Luke Rockhold is anywhere close to fighting for the middleweight championship even if he beats Paulo Costa at UFC 278. Luke Rockhold will set his foot inside the UFC octagon after a three years hiatus. The fighter is currently on a two-fight losing streak and will take on Costa this weekend.

Rockhold has claimed that he has ridiculously trained himself for several months for this comeback. He is confident to beat the Brazilian with ease.

Rockhold’s confidence can be seen clearly in one of his recent interviews with Helen Yee Sports. The fighter talked about a title shot and suggested that if he manages to beat Costa he wants to fight Israel Adesanya for the championship. He said:

White recently interviewed with MMA Underground‘s John Morgan ahead of UFC 278. In the interview, White talked about fighters featured in the event as well as potential match-ups in future.

When asked about Rockhold’s ambitions to fight for the title shot next, White gave a very clear answer about it. White explained that Costa is the #6 fighter in the middleweight division and he got dominated by the champion in a fight. White beleives that this is just Rockhold being himself and talking nonsense. However, White mentioned that he has no problem if Rockhold wants to wait for his title shot to come for a long time.

“Paulo Costa’s ranked number 6 in the world. To say that if he (Rockhold) beats Paulo Costa, you know – and he got beat by the champion in 2.3 seconds. I mean, this is normal Rockhold babble. If he wants to sit out and wait for a title shot, knock yourself out,” said Dana White.

Rockhold’s intentions to fight Israel Adesanya are ambitious and it will take a lot of hard work for the veteran fighter. But before that, Rockhold will have to focus on his next fight against Costa. If he wins, it will be interesting to see how things are going to pan out in the middleweight division.
