Dana White responds to reporter who claims Paulo Costa wanted to RUN AWAY from Luke Rockhold’s fight

Luke Rockhold vs Paulo Costa

Dana White doesn’t think it’s necessary to discuss what happened when UFC was making the fight between Paulo Costa vs Luke Rockhold. UFC 278 will take place inside the Vivint Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah this weekend and the fight card is stacked with amazing bouts. In the co-main event, Rockhold will take on Costa for a five-round middleweight showdown. Rockhold is making his octagon comeback after a long three years hiatus and getting this fight with Costa wasn’t that easy.

During the press conference of UFC 278, Rockhold and Costa got into a heated discussion. Rockhold then accused the Brazilian of running away and not taking the fight soon enough. He said :

“This m didn’t want to take the fight in the first place. The UFC forced it down his throat then he delayed it twice. Month after month and all the cosmetic bullshit you got done, you little bitch, sh* up.”

In the same press conference, a reporter asked Dana whether what Rockhold was saying about Costa was true or not.

“Luke just said you guys had to force this down to Paulo’s throat, is there any truth to that?” said the reporter.

To which the president of UFC gave a very clear and justified answer. According to White, all the negotiations for making the fight don’t matter as both the fighters are present and will fight Saturday night. He said:

“Who gives a shit they are here.”

Although White didn’t shed any light on what went down between both parties, it is possible that Rockhold could be right. If that’s true, then Costa has a valid reason for not accepting this fight easily. Rockhold is coming into the UFC after three years and doesn’t have anything beneficial for Costa. The Brazilian is #6 in the division and will naturally be more inclined towards getting a title shot again. For him fighting Rockhold is a downgrade however, his last few losses are the reason UFC made this fight which is well deserved.
