“How old is Nick?”- Dana White shuts down the possibility of Nick Diaz fighting Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title

Dana White on Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz’s recent demand for a title shot at 38 while he can, according to himself “make it happen” has been received with equal parts humor and equal parts of dismissal by the MMA Community. However, Kamaru Usman’s manager Ali Abdelaziz thinks otherwise.

Diaz, a former strike force champion and UFC title challenger, made his return to the ring after a long lay-off that started due to a suspension for testing positive for Marijuana after his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 183. Diaz returned to face former opponent Robbie Lawler who he had finished in the first round of their first fight.

While the return was met with much hype, mostly due to an experimental weight cut photo shared by Diaz, the matchup itself was anything but a far cry from his glory days. Diaz who was throwing a high volume of punches, and landing most of them seemed to have no effect on Lawler.

Lawler’s returns visibly shook Nate Diaz, a sight that was very rarely seen in his pre-2015 fight career. The bout ended in round 3 when Diaz hit the canvas and refused to engage with Lawler calling it, quits. Despite the outcome of his last fight, Nick is still a huge draw, and Ali Abdelaziz hinted at the possibility of this fight happening.

Dana White was recently interviewed by Yahoo! Sports, and the reporter asked him to comment on this bout. Dana immediately disregarded his question, and said, “I don’t want to see Nick Diaz get hurt. I need to look out for Nick and make sure Nick doesn’t get hurt.”

Nick’s gym recently revealed that the star is being operated on to replace 2 discs in his neck, they are hoping for a full recovery, and they expect him to compete soon. While some fun matchups are there, Dana definitely doesn’t see him in the title contention. Adding on to his comments he said, “I put on fights with the best fighters in the world, and how old is Nick? You’re asking me silly questions.”
