Earlier this month Conor McGregor released a limited-time series McGregor Forever on Netflix. The documentary gave an insight into the life of UFC’s biggest cash cow. It included key events from Conor’s life, like his loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, his gruesome injury, and his return to the UFC. The documentary received tremendous success and is one of the most viewed shows on Netflix. Following the success, UFC President Dana White is coming out with some projects of his own.
Dana White, during an interview on Pat McAfee’s Show, revealed that he has joined hands with Hollywood star Adam Sandler to create a UFC comedy show. Adam Sandler already has some prior experience working with the UFC. Sandler, through his production company, produced a movie called Here Comes the Boom with the Organization. The movie included notable UFC figures like Joe Rogan, referee Herb Dean and the voice of UFC Bruce Buffer.
The show will most likely be distributed by Netflix and produced by Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. The new comedy show with Adam Sandler is one of several television projects that the UFC is looking forward to. Dana White also revealed that they will also partner with ESPN to release a full-fledged documentary about UFC.“We’re doing a deal right now with Roku where we’re filming a documentary behind the scenes of the UFC, that will come out later this year. You guys will see all the behind the scenes,” said Dana White in his interview.
With UFC being the most viewed MMA organization and one of the most watched sports organizations, the plans for multiple television projects sound very interesting. Fans of UFC and Sandler’s movies will thoroughly enjoy them as well.
UFC and its history of collaboration with Hollywood
Since its operation, the UFC has managed to keep growing continuously to become a multi-billion dollar organization. While UFC has constantly tried to arrange great events for the fight fans, it has also branched out. Along with UFC events, Dana White also started focusing on creating TV series and shows as well. It all began with The Ultimate Fighter, which introduced many new fighters in the UFC along with reaching many new viewers.
The UFC also collaborated with some huge Hollywood stars. Back in 2012, UFC was part of a comedy movie produced by Adam Sandler called Here Comes the Boom. The movie followed the story of a teacher who tries to raise money by fighting in the UFC. Since this movie, Dana White will be teaming up with Adam Sandler yet again. They will be working on their untitled UFC-based comedy show.
Another famous actor involved with the UFC is Jake Gyllenhaal. The actor was seen shooting scenes of his movie Roadhouse during UFC 285. Former double-division champion Conor McGregor is also a part of the movie.
Apart from movies, famous rapper Eminem also made a UFC-themed music video titled ‘Higher‘. While a lot of UFC fighters have pursued a career in movies, UFC itself is a lot less invested in Hollywood. Despite all of that, the organization will be coming out with more TV shows and documentaries in the near future.
