The road with Dana White and company has been rocky for Jon Jones, as revealed by new messages.

The year was 2014. G.O.A.T Jon Jones was still 20-1 and was to lock horns with Alexander Gustafsson. Gustafsson had pushed the then-light heavyweight champ to his limit at UFC 165. Much to the dismay of Dana White, Jones was not up for it though; he wanted Daniel Cormier as an opponent. Even today, the 27-1 heavyweight out of Jackson’s MMA Acoma has an age-old ugly rivalry with Cormier.
There came a time when active negotiations on the extended contractual fight agreement had halted. Jones would not sign. Dana White, the promotion’s taskmaster had hashed out the details with then-UFC Chairman Leorenzo Fertitta. The messages from White, unsealed as part of the UFC antitrust lawsuit, read:
What’s up with Jones? Did he straighten up or is he still being a scumbag?...F*** that punk, Lorenzo. He needs to know we don’t need him, or he will f*** us over more than he already does.Dana White to Leorenzo Fertitta in a private online converation

The tidbit comes from the 2017 deposition that Federal Judge Richard Boulware recently unsealed. The $1.6 Billion Anti-Trust Lawsuit morphed into a class-action affair, with 1000s seeking damages. Former UFC fighters Cung Le, Nathan Quarry, Jon Fitch, Brandon Vera, Luis Javier Vazquez, and Kyle Kingsbury acted as plaintiffs (Case No. 2:15-cv-01045-RFB-BNW), kickstarting it.
There have been some rocky moments in Jones’ relationship with the UFC. Inclusive of refusing to fight Chael Sonnen for the UFC 151 title bout, after Dan Henderson pulled out due to injury. He would again sit out for 3 years (from Feb. 2020) over pay distribution for a super fight with then-heavyweight Francis Ngannou.
A brief history of Jon Jones’ squabbles with Dana White and Co.
Currently, inactive champion Jon Jones is characterized for Dana White privileges, feuding with interim titleholder Tom Aspinall.
But this wasn’t always the case. According to an 80-page ruling obtained by MMA Junkie, Federal Judge Richard F. Boulware granted certification of the “class action” to a 2014 lawsuit.

The development was first reported by John Nash. And it details a lot of heat, from top honcho Dana White toward Jones. This wasn’t their only dispute over the years.
Prime of these includes UFC 151, which White labeled as the event that Jon Jones and Greg Jackson murdered. With five fights remaining on Jones’ contract, the mission was to lock up the champion for an extended period. As such, they opened up windows for more negotiations.
Plaintiffs in the UFC’s antitrust lawsuit allege that such contracts were an illegal scheme to depress fighter salaries and are seeking damages.
A year later, Jones underwent a bigger stress test with UFC. After a hit-and-run accident that injured a pregnant woman, the fighter faced jail time. White had dissed him as not being a model citizen, in or outside of the promotion.
Afterward, Jones also went on a major Twitter rant, demanding a pay bump.
These days though, the fighter is on amicable terms with the promotion and management, pulling out of UFC 295’s headliner due to a pectoral tear. White is still set on advocating for a legacy title fight between him and Stipe Miocic, once he recovers.
