“I got 8 championships at home”- Daniel Cormier gives a firm statement against Sean O’Malley’s criticism

Daniel Cormier and Sean O'Malley

Daniel Cormier isn’t as intrigued by Sean O’Malley as the rising bantamweight contender thinks. O’Malley recently informed former UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight titleholder, Daniel Cormier, on his podcast how irritated he is with the commentary of his fights on playback.

O’Malley went on to say that “deep down,” he believes Cormier merely wants him to lose, leading to the unsatisfying analysis. Unfortunately, his assumptions appear to be incorrect, as Cormier took the time on his most recent podcast to express his true feelings.

Cormier stated on the DC & RC podcast with Ryan Clark, “It doesn’t really make me feel anything because the reality is like you said Ryan, my accomplishments are all on my own. I don’t care enough about Sean O’Malley to care if he wins or loses because like you said, it doesn’t really affect me. I like the kid, I think the kid’s a fantastic little fighter, I think he’s tough. But the reality is, I got eight championship belts at home. I got eight championship belts at home, Ryan Clark.”

He even adds, “It’s crazy when we mistake popularity for putting you on the level with someone else. The reality is I don’t care if Sean wins or if he loses. I don’t want to see a man lose. I think that he’s good for the sport. I think him winning does things for the sport. But I do believe that he uses this to serve as a bit of motivation, right? Everybody always goes; you need haters in order to propel you forward. So I think he’s trying to make me that but the reality is I don’t really care all that much because again, I have so many championships at home.”

Daniel Cormier identifies an ideal opponent for Khamzat Chimaev

Daniel Cormier recently acted as a matchmaker for Khamzat Chimaev’s forthcoming fight on an edition of ESPN MMA’s DC & RC. Following Chimaev’s impressive performance against Gilbert Burns, many believe that the next natural opponent for the rising welterweight star is Colby Covington.

Cormier, on the other hand, warned that scheduling a Covington-Chimaev battle might cause a problem in the 170-pound championship battle.

A scenario in which Covington overcomes Chimaev and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ defeats Leon Edwards, according to ‘DC,’ will ultimately result in a redundant trilogy match between Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington.

Daniel Cormier says, “What I believe Khamzat should do… I think you put Khamzat against Belal Muhammad. Belal Muhammad has a style that at times can be a bit less than entertaining. By putting him in there with a guy like Khamzat, it almost guarantees that he has to fight because he won’t just take Khamzat down.”
