“Dana’s throwing so much money” – Daniel Cormier reveals what would make Khabib Nurmagomedov fight again

Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Charles Oliveira

Like any other MMA fan, Daniel Cormier loses sleep at night wondering what would bring Khabib Nurmagomedov back from retirement and the UFC commentator finally be onto something.

Recently Charles Oliveira defeated Justin Gaethje and would have technically defended his belt for the second time if not for the weigh-in mishap. The Brazilian lightweight is breaking records with every fight of his and is a threat to the GOAT lightweight position that former champ Khabib Nurmagomedov holds. Though this is not enough to push Nurmagomedov to come out of retirement, Daniel Cormier might just have revealed the scenario where we might see “The Eagle” back in the octagon.

Daniel, on his ESPN show, DC & RC explained when the fans might see Khabib fight again. For Oliveira’s next fight, Islam Makhachev, a dear friend of Khabib, is a favorite to be the opponent. While Islam and Charles is a very interesting matchup, it also answers the question of whether Charles could’ve actually beaten the great Khabib.

“Maybe it will be nice to see him [Oliveira] fight Khabib right?” Cormier raised on the DC&RC show. “Many people have said, ‘it’ll be nice to know.’ What better way to draw him back than by having Oliveira beat his friend, training partner.”

“It is another way to draw him,” DC said on the scenario of Khabib returning to fight. “Dana’s throwing so much money at Khabib to try to get him back, that hasn’t been enough. But what if defending his friend’s honor is enough if Islam doesn’t get the job done?”

Khabib retired in 2020 following the devastating death of his father/mentor, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov. In his time in the UFC, Khabib defended his lightweight belt thrice against, Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier, and Justin Gaethje. The biggest achievement of them all was to stay undefeated in his career and put up a record of 29-0.

Charles on the other hand has one title defense and would have had two if he made weight against Justin Gaethje at UFC 274. What are your thoughts on Daniel Cormier’s scenario?
