WATCH: Darren Till labels his recent DUI arrest in Sweden “FAKE NEWS”

Darren Till

To say that Darren Till has had a rollercoaster of a year is to put the highlights of the last 9 months lightly. From finding in a training partner a close confidant to cancelling a fight booked to take place in London, he’s had it all happen to him.

After his loss to Derek Brunson last year, Till looked lost, akin to a fish out of water. His move up a division was preceded by a couple of loss at Welterweight, including the title submission loss to Tyron Woodley and THAT knockout loss to Jorge Masvidal.

Since, looking for greener pastures hasn’t really worked out for the Briton. He moved up to Middleweight, and has since lost to Robert Whittaker and Derek Brunson.

Darren Till got a much deserved break when he moved to Swede temporarily early this year to train with juggernaut Khamzat Chimaev. The two have come together to capture MMA fans’ imagination in an unlikely bromance, that has created a series of extremely viral moments for both the Swede and the Briton.

Lovingly called the Smesh Bros, the duo have paired up to help each other train and maximize their talent’s worth, in upcoming fights in the UFC. This Sunday, Khamzat Chimaev takes on Nate Diaz in what promises to be an all-out brawl. Preparing his mate for the all out war is Till, who has accompanied the AllStar Gym’s fighters to Sweden, to be in attendance.

Yesterday, in what has never happened before, Dana White cancelled the fighter press-conference, citing a risk to fighters’ safety. The reason for the cancellation was a scuffle breaking out in the lobby of arena, involving 4 of the 6 fighters in the press-conference. While details aren’t still as clear as can be, the fighters involved in the scuffle look to be Kevin Holland, Khamzat Chimaev, Tony Ferguson and Nate Diaz. It is unclear if it was Holland or the Diaz camp that instigated the aggression.

In speaking with TheMacLife, Darren Till later confirmed that he himself was involved in a verbal back and forth with Kevin Holland and also Nate Diaz’s team, which he said numbered at beyond 50.

Amongst other things, a rejuvenated Darren Till was asked about his recent run-in with the law, where he was arrested for reportedly having thrice the legal amount of alcohol in his blood. Playfully dismissing it, he said that is “Fake news, but it’s not that fake news.” Clarifying his statement, he said that reports of him being arrested are true, but he did in fact plead with the authorities to release, as it could finish off his career.

He said, “They (The UFC and its fans) like that sort of thing, but obviously within a limit. It isn’t like golf or football. The news article saying I pleaded was fake, as when I arrested in Tenerife, the UFC called and told me they had my back.” Till seemingly delivered these statements in a joking tone, not paying much heed to what the headlines had to say.

Darren Till fights again in December, against Dricus Du Plessis, at UFC 282. Could this be the resurgence Till is hoping for? Only time will tell. But for now, fans can expect to see Till cornering Chimaev against Diaz on Sunday.
