Khamzat Chimaev and Darren Till produced one of the greatest ever pictures in the history of UFC. The Liverpool fighter explains how the picture came about and gives his reaction to the moment.
As if Khamzat Chimaev’s stocks were already not booming through the roof, the Swedish fighter produced an iconic moment with his teammate Darren Till moments before his fight against Gilbert Burns at UFC 273. After Chimaev’s intense walkout, unlike many other fighters, Chimaev did not stay inside the cage.

As Gilbert made his walkout, the UFC camera panned to the rising superstar sitting on top of the cage with his teammate, Darren vibing and bopping his head to the Brazilian’s entrance music. Never in the history of the promotion has a fighter been so calm ahead of a fight with so much at stake. The hype for the fight was unreal and Chimaev made sure he put on a show for his fans.
In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Darren talks about the moment and how it came about. “Khamzat just jumped on the cage next to me and when Gilbert was coming out I just had to calm him down,” said Till talking to Submission Radio.

“This was in my mind just for him to relax the nerves, I just said, ‘When Gilbert’s coming out just dance to his music, just clap your hands and just like, just rock on,'” said Darren in the interview, “So he started clapping and so did I.”
“And soon as we got to the locker room after the win, I seen the photo on UFC’s Instagram and I had seen that it just went viral. I was like, ‘Wow! That is such a sick pic.’ I was showing the guys like, ‘That is a cold pic.’ Ever since it is one of the most legendary pictures in UFC history, in my opinion.”
Khamzat went on to be tested for the first time in his UFC career. From only one significant strike landed on him in the first four fights to absorbing more than 100 significant strikes from Burns in the three-round barn burner, Chimaev surely showed that he not only has the skills to hang with the top guys but also the heart.
